Hello Windows Insiders!

We’re excited to release the first build of Windows 11 Insider Preview to the Developer Channel! As we finalize the product over the coming months, we’ll be working with you to validate the experience. You’ll be able to try many, but not all, of the new features we showed off last week in this early preview.

WSR is being discontinued

Over the coming months, we’ll be bringing more features to the Microsoft Store, like chat with Microsoft Teams and Android apps, as they’re ready for you—we’re just getting started on this journey together! Changes and Improvements – – [General] Windows 11 is transitioning from Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) to Voice Access. When you open WSR, you’ll see a dialog box telling you that you can try Voice Access, and they’ve also added a banner under Settings > Accessibility > Speak Like Them.

They encourage WSR users to try and start using Voice Access today

Voice Access, our new assistive technology in Windows 11, uses speech recognition built into your device to let you control your PC and compose text without an internet connection. In a future update, it will support multiple languages and custom commands (these features are now available to Windows Insiders to try in the Beta channel, as mentioned above). A dialog box prompting you to try Voice Access opens Windows Speech Recognition.

Narrator users can use Voice Access to give Narrator commands using their voice

– [Nearby Sharing] They are introducing the ability to quickly give your device a friendlier name to identify sharing with and from Nearby Sharing in Settings > System > Nearby Sharing. Give your device a friendlier name to identify sharing with and from Nearby Sharing. – [Narrator] Narrator users can now use Voice Access to open apps, dictate text, and interact with items on the screen using their voice.

For example, “speak faster,” “read next line,” etc

To get started, search for “Voice Access” in Windows Search and set it up. Fixes – – [Task Manager] When creating a process dump file, the location of the dump file should now be selectable so that you can copy it. – [Desktops] Made some improvements to help address an issue where the background could jump when switching between Theyn desktops
