Scenario
A grieving therapist begins to tell his clients exactly what he thinks
Ignoring his qualifications and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes in people’s lives – including his own. In "Shrinking", they share the most important moments that defined their characters in Season 1 and reveal who did the best Harrison Ford impression. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type,” and was prepared to audition people like Ford.
Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role
Segel told Goldstein that they should at least take it to Ford first, because they thought he would immediately reject it, but at least others would hear that Harrison Ford was involved in the project, which also piqued the interest of other major actors. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince her, but he cheered nonetheless.. Featured in WatchMojo’s Top 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023).
It’s pure and simple entertainment
Cleanly written, great one-liners, enough pathos to keep it from becoming the Big Bang Theory for the middle class, it’s a joy to watch. Yes, real therapists wouldn’t act like that, but anyone with a functioning brain cell knows that criticism in this regard is just negativity to drive down ratings. Are some of the characters stereotypes?
Finally, who knew what a great light-hearted comedy actor Harrison Ford was?
Yes, but no offense is intended and no one should be tolerated, FYI, I worked with a gay guy who was exactly the stereotype presented here. The real success here is combining the seriousness of therapy and grief with the growing pains of life at different ages, stages of life, and lifestyles, and making it funny. He’s a total revelation, and he alone makes the show worth watching.
