During this period, Rea appeared in the film for which he is probably best known in the United States: the 1992 romantic thriller The Crying Game
Scenario
Spanning four tumultuous decades during The Troubles in Northern Ireland, the real Dolours Price was married to Irish actor Stephen Rea for two decades (1983-2003).
I highly recommend reading the book for additional context/information, but the series does a fantastic job of covering the material
In the film, Rea plays Ferguson, a highly reluctant and ambiguous member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) — the same organization that Price was involved with for many years.
Really well played across the different ages of the main characters
The themes I think are important are: – in war, everyone thinks they’re on the right side – how far you’ll go for a cause you believe in, and what happens when that belief is tested or weakens – the sacrificial pawns of war, who bear the greatest risk, are usually easily discarded at the end – the broader “code” of silence in communities sometimes goes too far – the spoils of war usually go to bureaucrats, not soldiersOverall, an incredibly well-done miniseries.
