Synopsis
The story of generations about families and the special place where they live, sharing love, loss, laughter and life. For the first time, it was published as a strip in the comics magazine “Raw”; in 1989, and expanded to a 300-page graphic novel in 2014.. I admit that over time this trick got boring, but I still sometimes found it clever
(2024). For me, the most intriguing part of this film was the skillful use of technology to jump forward and backward in time, but not in space, to show what was happening in an unremarkable place in modern New England during the time of the dinosaurs. until today. Transitions are often done by adding picture-in-picture windows on top of the central video, then switching to a different time in some smaller windows before the entire screen changes to that era as well. However, I did have problems that some of the previous fourteen reviewers have already pointed out.
Why should one of Ben Franklin’s sons worry us?
The basic history of the Young family over three generations is of little interest. But other secondary stories woven into it and from it are not really interesting. Or an Indian/Native American girl and her young boyfriend? Or even the person who invented the Lazy Boy chair? Nothing is done to connect these stories with the main one, and they are of no interest in themselves.
Nothing really unites these disparate stories
This is especially true of the short time spent with a young African-American couple living in a house for an indefinite period of time in our modern world. era. (They have COVID masks.) In fact, all we see is the woman getting along with her Latina housekeeper. And that the father at some point gives his son what we white people are told is a “conversation”; in which a father tells his son how to behave when a white policeman stops him so that he does not kill him. It’s almost a cliché, and none of my black friends have ever discussed it with their parents.
I was not bored
Since they are not interesting in themselves and do not support the main point, this is a problem. I could even watch this movie again on TV, where I could pause it for a break from time to time. But once in the theater, even though it’s not boring, it was enough for me.
