The reviews here are more entertaining than the show itself, lol
Scenario
The show follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a TV documentary journalist whose job is to expose the transgressions of long-respected institutions. Gary Oldman was originally supposed to be cast, but he was replaced by Kevin Kline.
How the hell did Alfonso Cuaron manage to make such a terrible show?
Right from the start, the two young men on the train in the first scene are irritating, and the poor acting continues from there. Even Kevin Kline, who normally can do no wrong in my eyes, seems to be faking it.
The narration is unnatural and has a weird, inconsistent audio quality
It’s like the actors have no idea how they’re supposed to play their characters. I assume the narration is taken directly from the book, but it doesn’t always make sense in the context of the TV series.
Kodi Smit-McPhee mopes around like a wet rag
For example, the narration is sometimes directed towards Cate Blanchett’s character and narrates her own experience, which is just plain weird. Sacha Baron Cohen seems out of place and sometimes becomes strangely hysterical.
It’s all a bit weird
One star for the cute cat.
