Pees all day and wants to live longer?

Synopsis

A mysterious device designed to grant its owner eternal life resurfaces after four hundred years, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Ron Perlman tried this, but Guillermo del Toro found his interpretation completely unusable. So the character was changed to an American expat who hates being in Mexico so much that what little Spanish he speaks is deliberately slurred. Behind him, reflected in the glass of the door, are the crew and equipment. [discussing why Deiter wants the Cronos] Grey Jesus: He thinks it will help him live longer.

Some explicit nudity was added to the US video release. Although the primary American theatrical version contains a prologue and snippets of dialogue in English, a secondary market version will be entirely in Spanish. Apparently, this is Guillermo del Toro’s first feature film, and while it’s a bit rough around the edges, it’s also highly creative and different. However, because it’s so visceral, bloody and violent, it’s NOT a film for everyone.

“Cronos” begins with a strange prologue

It seems that centuries ago an alchemist invented a strange device – and it was able to grant eternal life. The film now shifts to the present. An old man and his granddaughter have found a strange metal device – the same one created by this alchemist. However, they have no idea what its purpose is and how to make it work. By accident, the old man manages to activate it – and he pierces himself – causing a lot of pain and blood.

It gets very weird, violent and bloody

Strangely enough, though, he soon starts to feel better and look younger – and feels a strong urge to try to figure out the device – and sends his sociopathic nephew (Ron Perlman) to get it. However, I’ve seen it described as a ‘vampire’ movie and that’s really a gross oversimplification. There’s a lot more to it than that – and you just have to see it to understand. I won’t say any more – you’ll have to see it… really.

and the Hellboy movies!

It’s not exactly a horror film in the traditional sense and it’s excellent. He’s carved out an interesting niche by appearing in the strangest variety of international films. Now I’m NOT complaining – just amazed at his film projects, as they are incredibly varied. Here he’s in a Mexican film, but he’s also done French films (“City of Lost Children”), films about the Russo-German conflict in WWII (“Enemy at the Gates”). Talk about a man of many talents!
