Near the end of the film, the unicorn is intact
Scenario
The paths of two rival agents cross when they are both called in to cover up the misstep of a prominent New York official. On one explosive night, they must put aside their petty grievances and their egos to get the job done. Sony, Lionsgate, Apple and Netflix engaged in a bidding war for the film package before Apple sealed the deal. Brad Pitt and George Clooney, who are both producing the film through their production companies, are reportedly taking a lower amount of money to negotiate a theatrical release with Apple. Early in the film, George Clooney opens the backpack unicorn with a knife, letting the stuffing hang out.

Margaret (Amy Ryan) is the town’s DA and she’s got a problem. She brought a non-prostitute (Austin Abrams) back to her hotel room and he apparently died. She calls a special number for a fixer (George Clooney). It turns out the hotel manager had also called in her cleaning lady (Brad Pitt). This is a fun crime thriller.
There’s a really fun chase scene in the middle
The crux of it is watching Clooney and Pitt play off each other. While it’s fun, they’ve done this before and this is old hat for the guys. I would have loved to have kept Amy Ryan, but she’s replaced by an Austin Abrams. For most of the film, I’m trying to understand the situation like Clooney does. Ultimately, my problem is that I don’t understand the whole scheme.
I’m not convinced
The guys seem to be yadayada the thing, whether we understand it or not. While this is good light fun, it won’t be remembered as anything else in the future. Check out our list of exciting new films from this year’s film festivals, including Venice, TIFF, the New York Film Festival, and more.
