Hello Windows Insiders, we are excited to release the first Windows 11 Insider Preview to the Dev Channel! As we finalize the product over the coming months, we will work with you to validate the experience. You will have the opportunity to try many, but not all, of the new features we showed off last week in this early preview. We will be bringing more features like chat with Microsoft Teams and Android apps to the Microsoft Store over the coming months as they are ready for you – we are just beginning this journey together!

Changes and Improvements –

– [General]
Windows 11 is moving from Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) to Voice Access. WSR is being deprecated. A dialog will appear when you open WSR inviting you to try Voice Access. They have also added a banner under Settings > Settings. Accessibility > Speech as they will. Voice Access, our new assistive technology in Windows 11, uses on-device speech recognition, allowing you to control your PC and write text without an internet connection. It will support multiple languages and custom commands in a future update (these features are now available for Windows Insiders to try in the Beta Channel, as noted above). They recommend that WSR users try to get started with Voice Access today.

– [Nearby Share]
They are introducing the ability to quickly give your device a more friendly name to identify sharing to and from a Nearby Share under Settings > Settings. System > Nearby Share.

– [Narrator]
Narrator users can now use Voice Access to open applications, dictate text, and interact with on-screen elements using their voice. Narrator users can use Voice Access to give Narrator commands using their voice. For example, “speak faster,” “read the next line,” etc. To get started, search for “voice access” in Windows Search and set it up.

Fixes –

– [Task Manager]
When creating a dump file for a process, the dump file location should now be selectable so that you can copy it.

– [Desktops]
Made some improvements to help resolve an issue where the background could be seen jumping when switching between desktops.
